§ 13. Flight-Lieutenant Teelingasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what housing arrangements he has been able to make for the coming conferences in London from abroad; and whether, if the arrangements are not yet completely satisfactory, he has considered utilising the number of large hotels in Brighton, about to be derequisitioned by the R.A.F. in the next few weeks.
Mr. Noel-BakerI am glad to assure the hon. and gallant Member that satisfactory arrangements have been made for the accommodation of all the delegations to the Preparatory Commission of the United Nations, which is now meeting in London. Similar arrangements for the delegations to the General Assembly are well advanced. There will be no need, therefore, to adopt the hon. and gallant Member's proposal to use hotels at Brighton.
§ Flight-Lieutenant TeelingDoes the Minister realise that instead of taking an immense amount of trouble to get these hotels, they would have found that all the places to which I have referred were waiting; and is he aware that it was not considered necessary at Yalta and Potsdam to hold the conferences in the capitals?
Mr. Noel-BakerI do not believe that delegations who have to attend our meetings in London would like to have to make a journey of over an hour each way.
§ Mr. NicholsonThere would be nothing to prevent their going to Brighton for the weekend.
