§ 74. Sir W. Wakefieldasked the Minister of Labour how many man-hours of work have been lost to the nation since 1st August due to strikes and industrial disputes.
§ Mr. IsaacsOn the basis of such information as is available in my Department, the aggregate number of man-days lost during August and September due to stoppages of work arising from industrial disputes is estimated at about 220,000. Statistics as to the number of man-days lost subsequently are not yet available, but it is provisionally estimated that the number of man-days lost since the end of September through the stoppage of work at the docks is rather more than 1,000,000.
§ Sir W. WakefieldCould the Minister give the number of man-hours lost, which is what I asked for in the Question?
§ Mr. IsaacsBecause of the variation of hours from day to day it was not possible to give the number of man-hours, so we did our best by giving the number of man-days.
