HC Deb 22 March 1945 vol 409 cc965-6
7. Mr. Lipson

asked the Minister of Labour if he has considered the representations made to him that the Sunny-side Maternity Home, Cheltenham, providing at present accommodation for, approximately, 100 patients per month, may have to close owing to shortage of midwives and other trained staff; and what action he is taking to enable the home to continue to remain open and all its beds available for use.

Mr. Bevin

According to my reports the position at this home has now eased. It was critical in February when a short term emergency loan of two midwives from a neighbouring institution was arranged by my Department. In addition to this special loan, my Department has placed three midwives in the home since January, and four others have been, or are being submitted with a view to engagement.

Mr. Lipson

I thank the right hon. Gentleman for the assistance he has given.
