HC Deb 22 March 1945 vol 409 c965
4. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Minister of Labour if he can make a statement on the Government's policy with regard to holidays and relaxation on the termination of hostilities in Europe and after the defeat of Japan; if it is intended to grant holidays with full pay; and for what periods.

Mr. Bevin

The question of the Government's policy with regard to a holiday on the termination of hostilities in Europe is under consideration, but I am not in a position to make a statement at the present moment. The question of a holiday after the defeat of Japan must await developments.

Mr. J. J. Davidson

Is it possible for the Minister to make a pronouncement on the future policy of the Government, in view of the recent speech of the Prime Minister?

Mr. W. J. Brown

Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that the possibility of providing holiday accommodation on anything like the required scale either this year or in subsequent years will depend largely on our ability to get the Government to give up requisitioned accommodation of various kinds?
