HC Deb 20 March 1945 vol 409 c631
48. Mr. Oliver

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction occasioned by the proposals that the gratuities to be paid on demobilisation are to be calculated according to rank in addition to length of service; and whether a revision of the proposals in this direction is in contemplation.

Sir J. Anderson

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave to the hon. and gallant Member for Oxford University (Petty Officer Herbert) on 13th February [OFFICIAL REPORT, VOI. 408, C. 44 and 45.]

Mr. Oliver

Would the right hon. Gentleman be good enough to say what were the contents of that answer?

Sir J. Anderson

Shortly, the answer was to the effect that there was a Motion on the Order Paper, and that if there was evidence of any general desire on the part of the House for a discussion, an endeavour would be made to provide facilities.
