HC Deb 14 June 1945 vol 411 cc1749-50
5. Mr. Spearman

asked the Minister of Labour what steps he is taking to enable holiday facilities to be provided by those seaside resorts whose labour is still being directed to other towns.

Mr. Butler

Unless the circumstances are very exceptional workers are not now being directed away from seaside resorts. The great shortage of domestic workers has made it necessary to give the highest priority to hospitals and similar institutions, where there are many unfilled vacancies, but I am arranging that, sub- ject to the requirements of these priorities and war production, women may take up work in hotels and boarding houses at holiday resorts.
