HC Deb 18 January 1945 vol 407 c373
95. Sir R. Glyn

asked the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been drawn to an explosion that occurred on the Luton-Hitchin road due to a collision between a vehicle and a U.S. Army lorry; how it came about that the load in the U.S. lorry consisted apparently of fused bombs which caused this damage; and whether he will cause immediate instructions to be issued that in no circumstances are explosives to be carried in such a manner as to be able to explode on impact.

Mr. A. Henderson

An inquiry is being held into the cause of this unfortunate accident. If the circumstances of the accident, when they have been established, show that it is necessary, consideration will certainly be given, in consultation with the U.S. Army authorities, to changing the present regulations governing the transport of explosives by road or to ensuring that they are rigorously enforced in future.
