HC Deb 18 January 1945 vol 407 cc372-3
94. Mr. Glanville

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will clarify the position as to leave for Forces serving in Burma, as there is widespread dissatisfaction being expressed in letters from these men.

The Financial Secretary to the War Office (Mr. Arthur Henderson)

As my hon. Friend is aware, each Commander-in-Chief has full discretion to make such arrangements as are suitable in his command to choose the individuals in his quota who are brought home under the leave scheme announced by the Prime Minister on 17th November. I regret that I have no information as to the details of the leave arrangements now in force in S.E.A.C.

Mr. Glanville

Is my hon. and learned Friend aware that I have a letter in my pocket which says that the only men being sent home on leave are being sent on compassionate grounds, regardless of length of service?

Mr. Henderson

Perhaps my hon. Friend will let me see the letter.
