HC Deb 27 February 1945 vol 408 cc1214-5
15. Mr. W. J. Brown

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he can now make a statement to the House on the case of Mr. Lindemann, recently imprisoned; upon what charges he is held; and what is the present position in this case.

Sir J. Grigg

I assume the hon. Member is referring to a Dutch subject suspected of treachery who was arrested towards the end of last year. He is now awaiting his trial and the bon. Member will appreciate that no further statement can be made now. In view of the accounts which have recently appeared in the Press I should, however, point out that the man in question was not a Dutch officer, he was not detained in the Tower and there is no evidence that he betrayed or had any advance knowledge of the Arnhem operation. The newspaper which first published news about this case did so without submitting it to the censorship authorities.

Mr. Bellenger

Before what national court will he be tried?

Sir J. Grigg

Perhaps the hon. Member will put that question down.
