§ 3. Mr. Henderson Stewartasked the Secretary of State for War what action he has taken as the result of his inquiries into the evidence submitted to him by the hon. Member for East Fife regarding regarding the unsatisfactory con- 1209 ditions of billets, bedding, ablution facilities, messing, pay, leave allowances and home leave suffered by members of the A.T.S. stationed in Egypt.
§ Sir J. GriggA copy of the letter my hon. Friend sent to me has been forwarded by air to the Commander-in-Chief, Middle East, and I await his report.
Mr. StewartIn view of the rather disturbing nature of the report from this A.T.S. corporal, can my right hon. Friend indicate when a statement might be made on this matter?
§ Sir J. GriggNo, I am afraid I cannot. It is a very long statement and it is almost unique in that a great many of the complaints have never been heard before, though the A.T.S. has been serving in Egypt for a quite a long time. I can assure my hon. Friend that there will be a thorough investigation.
