HC Deb 17 December 1945 vol 417 c895
8. Mr. S. Shephard

asked the President of the Board of Trade what organisations have been set up by his Department to deal with the disposal of Government surplus stores; and what value of goods have each disposed of, to a recent date.

Sir S. Cripps

The trading organisations which have been set up, or are used, by the Board of Trade to deal with the disposal of Government surplus stores and the value of goods which each has disposed of to the 30th November, are as follows:

£
Surplus Textiles Corporation, Ltd. 788,481
Reconditioned and Salvaged Clothing Merchants' Association, Ltd. 145,862
British Overseas Cotton, Ltd. 172,200

In addition, the Wool Industry Surplus Cloth Corporation, Ltd., has just started operations, and a Surplus Hardware Corporation is about to be registered.

Mr. Shephard

Is the Minister satisfied with the present progress of the disposal of surplus Government stores?

Sir S. Cripps:

I am never satisfied with anything, but this is going, I think, as well as can be expected.
