HC Deb 17 December 1945 vol 417 c893
3. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps he intends to take under his statutory powers to maintain and extend the industrial development of the city of Aberdeen.

Sir S. Cripps

I have no statutory powers to maintain and extend the industrial development of the City of Aberdeen, but, in pursuance of the Government's general policy, the Board of Trade will endeavour to assist and encourage industry in that district.

12. Mr. Williamson

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he has considered the establishment of new industry in Barton-on-Humber; and what steps are being taken, to provide industrial prospects for the juvenile population and to provide against unemployment which was experienced in this area prior to the war.

Sir S. Cripps

A proposal to this end is at present under consideration. My officers will take advantage of any opportunity offered to encourage the establishment of new industry in this district.
