§ 32. Mr. Kingasked the Minister of Education if having regard to the provision of boarding facilities by L.E.A.s and the desirability of children of different types and from different localities mixing together, she will refuse her sanction to L.E.A.s establishing boarding schools which are confined to children all of whom arc drawn from the same area.
§ Miss WilkinsonThe primary duty of a local education authority is in respect of pupils in its own area and, while I do not question the advantages of admitting pupils of different types and from different localities to maintained boarding schools, I am not prepared to lay down a general rule of the kind suggested in the Question.
§ Mr. KingWould the right hon. Lady consider if local authorities could get together on a regional basis in order to control schools over a wider area?
§ Miss WilkinsonThey are in process of working out regional arrangements.
