HC Deb 12 December 1945 vol 417 c408
53. Mr. P. Freeman

Asked the Minister of Food whether he will consider lowering the maximum price of 5s. for a meal in certain circumstances which even in many small restaurants and cafes has now become a minimum.

Sir B. Smith

No, Sir. I have not sufficient evidence to justify such a course.

Mr. Freeman

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the maximum price has become almost a farce? Large hotels charge house charts and many smaller ones charge the maximum for a very inferior meal?

Sir B. Smith

I have nothing to add.
