§ 25. Mr. T. Reidasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether it is proposed to alter the prewar constitutional position of Sarawak.
§ Mr. George HallI am in consultation with His Highness the Raja of Sarawak on this question.
§ Mr. Wilson HarrisCould the right hon. Gentleman say whether in these negotiations the Rajah is being regarded as a kind of autocrat? Seeing that a Constitution was promulgated in 1941, just before the Japanese occupation, would it not be better to wait and see how this Constitution works before altering the status of Sarawak?
§ Mr. HallWe regard the Rajah as the representative of Sarawak and we are hoping to arrive at an agreement with him.
