HC Deb 28 September 1944 vol 403 cc413-4
47. Mr. Burke

asked the Prime Minister if he has given further consideration to the possibility of equalising the period of service overseas as between personnel in the Army and the Air Force; and with what result.

Mr. Eden

I have nothing to add to the statement which I made to the House on 29th June last in the absence of the Lord President of the Council.

Mr. Burke

Will the Minister bear in mind that these men are drafted into either Service not of their own choice but to meet national needs? Surely an effort should be made to find more equality of treatment?

Mr. Eden

If my hon. Friend will remember that answer, he will also remember that the matter was gone into at very great length then, and all the circumstances set out, and they are very often circumstances over which the Government cannot have control in a time of operations.
