§ 19. Mr. Lipsonasked the Minister of Labour what steps he is taking to ensure that men and women who have rendered efficient service in the Civil Defence services and are no longer required there are found suitable employment.
§ Mr. BevinArrangements have been made for my Department to be given as much notice as possible of the discharge of such persons. My local officers will then do all they can to place them in the most suitable employment, having regard both to their skill and experience and the requirements of the war effort.
§ Mr. LipsonMay I ask whether the local offices will be able to deal with men in more responsible positions, and, if not, what arrangements are being made for them? Could provisions be made for these men to be utilised by U.N.R.R.A.?
§ Mr. BevinI cannot deal with the latter part of the question, because I have nothing to do with U.N.R.R.A., except that people come to me for personnel and I submit persons for them to select from. With regard to the first part of the supple- 397 mentary question, those in higher positions will be dealt with by the Appointments Department and the remainder through the normal channels.
