HC Deb 25 October 1944 vol 404 c174
74. Sir C. Edwards

asked the Minister of Health the number of tubercular patients awaiting entrance to Cefn Mably hospital, Monmouthshire; if he can state the average waiting period for such patients; and what steps are being taken to make further provision and accommodation for these patients.

Miss Horsbrugh

I am informed that there are 16 men and 65 women on the waiting list for admission to this hospital. The present average waiting period for these patients is two months for the men and seven months for the women. Work is now in progress at the hospital which will provide an additional 48 beds.

Dr. Edith Summerskill

Does the hon. Lady realise that during the months that women are waiting, they are infecting their own children; and will she consider taking some action in this matter, in order to expedite the reception of these patients in hospital?

Miss Horsbrugh

I have already said that 48 additional beds are being provided there, and 48 additional beds at another sanatorium, and that an additional provision of 60 beds is being made at Chepstow.
