43. Mr. E. P. Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what are the regulations governing the marriage of members of the Palestine police.
§ Colonel StanleyIf a British constable or N.C.O. marries after his attestation he must, in accordance with the terms of 162 his contract, obtain the approval of the Inspector-General before he can be placed on the married establishment of the British Section and so qualify for certain privileges and allowances. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of the standard contract for British police, in which these regulations are set out in full.
44. Mr. E. P. Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies in what circumstances pensions in respect of serious personal injuries, sustained while on duty, are payable to members of the Palestine police.
§ Colonel StanleyAn award is made if the injury was sustained while on duty, necessitates or accelerates discharge from the Force, and is so serious that an individual's capacity to contribute to his own support has been materially impaired or totally destroyed.
Mr. SmithWould my right hon. and gallant Friend consider that the loss of an eye would materially impair a man's chance of earning his living? I beg to give notice that I will raise the matter on the Adjournment.
