§ 22. Major Sir Jocelyn Lucasasked the Secretary of State for Air if the club proposed to be established by Mr. Rafitt for Air Force officers in Paris is to be under Air Force welfare or a commercial concern run for profit; and if he will give an assurance that no authorisation will be given without stringent inquiries into the bona fides in this or similar cases.
§ Sir A. SinclairApart from statements which have appeared in the Press, my Department has no knowledge of this proposed club. I can certainly assure my hon. and gallant Friend that no club for the Royal Air Force would be accorded official recognition or support without full inquiry.
§ Sir J. LucasWill the Minister make it quite clear to the French that this club is not authorised? Apparently Mr. Rafitt got hold of free furniture from the British, because of his good intentions.
§ Sir A. SinclairI think we are in close touch with the French, and I do not think there can be any misunderstanding. I do not know that this club is in existence.
