HC Deb 15 November 1944 vol 404 c1952
33. Captain Duncan

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what constitutional changes he proposes to introduce in Cyprus in the near future; and whether the House will be afforded an opportunity of discussing them before they are finally approved.

Colonel Stanley

It is not proposed to introduce any constitutional changes in Cyprus in the near future. As I stated in reply to a Question by the hon. Member for Linlithgow (Mr. Mathers) on 2nd August, the present policy is to develop representative institutions in Cyprus through elected local authorities before considering any modifications in the central machinery of Government.
