HC Deb 15 November 1944 vol 404 c1952
75. Mr. Alexander Walkden

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the Government will consider the desirability of making arrangements whereby, after the termination of the war in Europe, surplus Army motor lorries may be distributed to such of our Colonies as are in need of increased transport for their development, rather than to allow such surplus vehicles to be dumped upon the home market.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade (Captain Waterhouse)

Yes, Sir. So far as possible, surplus vehicles will be reconditioned to a proper standard before sale, either at home or abroad. Vehicles which are not up to a standard for reconditioning will be scrapped. It is the Government's policy to avoid dumping on the home or any other market, and the possibility of finding a market in the Colonies for these and other surplus articles is not being overlooked.
