HC Deb 15 November 1944 vol 404 cc1967-8
64. Mr. Hugh Lawson

asked the Minister of Information when it is proposed to abandon the war-time arrangements for the broadcasting of B.B.C. programmes and revert to the pre-war methods so that reception, particularly during the hours of darkness, may be improved.

Mr. Bracken

It will not be possible for the B.B.C. to revert to peacetime broadcasting arrangements so long as the war in Europe continues. The existing arrangements are conditioned by the very great expansion of the Overseas Services which has been made at the request of the Government.

Mr. Lawson

Will the right hon. Gentleman give an assurance that peace-time broadcasting will take place as soon as possible?

Mr. Bracken

When peace comes, peace broadcasting will come with it.
