24. Miss Rathboneasked the Secretary of State for India whether, following the decision at Montreal that U.N.R.R.A. is competent to undertake work in India, any request for assistance from U.N.R.R.A. has been made by the Government of India; and whether, if that Government is unable from its own resources to cover the minimum food programme recommended by the Central Food Advisory Council, a request for assistance from U.N.R.R.A. will be made without delay.
§ Mr. AmeryNo such request has so far been made. The hon. Member will appreciate that the supply of goods to India through the machinery of U.N.R.R.A. would not increase India's total imports as the limiting factor on these is the shipping available.
