HC Deb 08 November 1944 vol 404 cc1343-4
25. Captain Gammans

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies when he expects to be able to make a statement on post-war policy regarding broadcasting in the Colonial Empire.

Colonel Stanley

The matter is receiving active attention but I cannot at present say when I shall be in a position to make any statement about it.

Captain Gammans

Does my right hon. and gallant Friend not feel that, in view of the fact that broadcasting generally to the Colonial Empire is so bad, an expert committee ought to be appointed to make recommendations?

Colonel Stanley

Of course, this is bound up with the whole future of broadcasting in the Empire after the war, and in the consideration of that matter I am getting great help from the experts of the B.B.C.

Dr. Morgan

Will not the right hon. and gallant Friend recognise that there is really a disgraceful handling of Empire and Colonial broadcasting from the B.B.C. at the present time?

Colonel Stanley

No, Sir, I would not admit that for a moment.
