HC Deb 01 November 1944 vol 404 cc779-80
16. Captain Strickland

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether, in appointing attachés to embassies and legations overseas, any regard is had to the scientific or technical qualifications of the officers concerned; and whether, in view of the increased importance of scientific developments in warfare, he is satisfied that sufficient attention is being paid to this matter.

Sir A. Sinclair

Yes, Sir. The qualifications to which the hon. and gallant Member refers are taken into account with others in the selection of officers for attaché appointments. I agree that the importance of technical and scientific qualifications is likely to increase and I can assure the hon. and gallant Member that this point will be watched.
