HC Deb 25 May 1944 vol 400 c911
20. Lady Apsley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will ensure that when next-of-kin are informed by the police that their Service son is dangerously ill and that they should visit him,. the police messenger will bring with him the necessary travelling warrant which must bear police signature and thereby save in some cases a journey by the recipient to the police station of several miles to obtain this and enable the relative to start immediately for the military hospital.

Mr. H. Morrison

I undertand that the normal procedure in these cases is for a telegram to be sent from the hospital to the relatives, who take the telegram to the nearest police station and obtain a travelling warrant. Exceptionally, the police are asked to deliver the message, and I am considering whether any improvements can be made in the arrangements for the issue of travelling vouchers in these exceptional cases.
