HC Deb 25 May 1944 vol 400 cc899-900
2. Wing-Commander James

asked the Minister of Labour if he will consider adapting the functions of either manpower or hardship committees so as to meet the growing need for providing some machinery whereby the release of men and women from call-up may be effected in cases in which circumstances have so changed that in the new conditions they would have originally been exempted.

Mr. Bevin

Release from the Forces is a matter for the particular Service Department concerned, which acts in consultation with my Department when industrial considerations arise. I have no reason to suppose that the existing arrangements are not adequate.

Wing-Commander James

Having regard to the fact that a similar subject is being raised on the Adjournment tomorrow, I will seek an opportunity, if I may, to take this point a little further.
