HC Deb 10 May 1944 vol 399 cc1889-90
23. Mr. John Wilmot

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the high value of the work being carried out by the British trade unionists appointed as labour advisers to the Government of British Guiana and Trinidad, he will cause similar appointments to be made in Jamaica, Barbados, Bahamas and Bermuda.

Colonel Stanley

I am anxious to see the experiment of appointing British trade unionists as labour officers extended. I qui consulting the Governments of the territories named by the hon. Member, with a view to ascertaining whether they now desire the appointment of trade unionists as labour officers.

Dr. Morgan

Will the right hon. and gallant Gentleman consider the advisability also of appointing one federal labour adviser, and then having subsidiaries, if that is desirable?

Colonel Stanley

That is quite a different question, but there is, of course, a labour expert attached to the staff of the Stock-dale Commission.
