§ 52. Sir Waldron Smithers
asked the Minister of Food whether, when fixing the prices to the grower this year of soft fruits and other horticultural products, he will take into account the increase in the costs so as to ensure that the small grower gets a price which will show him a profit over his costs of production.
§ Colonel Llewellin
Yes, Sir. As in previous seasons the prices of horticultural products, including soft fruits, will be fixed after consideration of all relevant factors and discussion with growers' representatives.
§ Sir W. Smithers
Is my right hon, and gallant Friend aware that last year some food was pre-empted at a price below the cost of production? Will he announce the price and pre-emption dates as soon as possible so that smallholders may know where they stand?
