§ 59. Major Lyonsasked the Minister of Food if he has now considered the particularised information sent to him and to the President of the Board of Trade by the Price Regulation Committee for the North Midland Region in support of a controlled price for spirits; what statement he can make thereon; and whether he will publish the recommendations made and the replies thereto.
§ Colonel LlewellinIn reply to the first part of my hon. and gallant Friend's Question I would refer to the reply which was given yesterday to the hon. and gallant Member for South Nottingham (Mr. Messer). The reply to the last part of the question is, "No, Sir."
§ Major LyonsWhy does the right hon. and gallant Gentleman refuse to publish the correspondence between those who have gone into this matter most closely and his Department?
§ Colonel LlewellinThe committee referred to happens to be a committee set up by the Board of Trade, and has nothing within its purview with regard to food matters. When a committee is set up by a Government Department to report to the Department or to the Central Price Regulation Committee, as in this case, the reports are not normally published.
Mr. MothersHow does it come about that the right hon. and gallant Gentleman deals with this matter, in view of the fact that wines and spirits have no food value?
