HC Deb 08 March 1944 vol 397 c2026
2. Miss Ward

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that the King's Messengers, who render the nation invaluable service often under most dangerous circumstances, are entitled to no pension for the dependants if they are killed; that there have already been deaths and disablement from their service; and will he take immediate steps to remedy this.

Mr. Eden

I think the hon. Lady must be under a misapprehension. Provision does exist for compensation to dependants of King's Messengers serving abroad who die as a result of war injuries sustained on duty, or of an accident specifically attributable to the nature of their duty.

Miss Ward

Could I ask my right hon. Friend when that decision came into operation?

Mr. Eden

As far as I know, it has been in operation for some considerable time.
