HC Deb 22 June 1944 vol 401 c348

The following Question stood upon the Order Paper in the name of Lieut.- Colonel Sir THOMAS MOORE:

42. To ask the Minister of Agriculture whether it was with his authority that the Crown Lands Commission refused to permit the Salvation Army to erect signs outside their hostels on Crown property for the purpose of indicating that they are hostels or clubs for the benefit of the troops; and if he will have this decision altered.

Sir T. Moore

On a point of Order. When I handed this Question into the Clerks at the Table, Mr. Speaker, I referred to the Crown Paving Commission and not the Crown Lands Commission, which is a most efficient and courteous body.

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. R. S. Hudson)

The answer to my hon. and gallant Friend's Question is as follows: No, Sir. This is a matter purely for the Crown Estates Paving Commission, and not for the Commissioners of Crown Lands.

Sir T. Moore

On a point of Order. How can I possibly get an answer to my Question, Mr. Speaker?

Mr. Speaker

If the hon. and gallant Member had written his Question a little more clearly perhaps he might have got an answer.

Sir T. Moore

Then may I submit my Question again, in clearer writing?
