HC Deb 07 June 1944 vol 400 cc1349-50
48. Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Food how many complaints he has received from traders of difficulty in disposing of any of the jam made in this country last year.

The Minister of Food (Colonel Llewellin)

I received complaints early this year that, owing to reduced demand for the less popular varieties, many traders held bigger stocks of jam than usual. No such complaints have been received for the past two months.

Mr. Lewis

Has the right hon. and gallant Gentleman considered the desirability of releasing rather more soft fruit for consumption as fresh fruit in these circumstances?

Colonel Llewellin

I am afraid we shall be very short of fruit this year.

Colonel Greenwell

Would the right hon. and gallant Gentleman consider reducing the turnip content in jam?
