HC Deb 26 July 1944 vol 402 c753
29. Mr. Edmund Harvey

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many Maltese British subjects are still detained in internment in Uganda; and whether any proposals for their repatriation are being considered.

Colonel Stanley

Twenty-five Maltese British subjects are at present being held in detention in Uganda on behalf of the Government of Malta. Of the original party of 42, 17 were repatriated last year after all the cases had been reviewed. The cases of the remainder are at present again under review by the Governors with a view to possible repatriation and release.

Captain Alan Graham

Can the right hon. and gallant Gentleman assure us that he will be in no hurry to release the notorious anti-British Monsignor Pantellerscu?

Colonel Stanley

If my hon. and gallant Friend is going to ask about particular cases, he had better put a Question on the Paper.
