HC Deb 12 July 1944 vol 401 cc1719-20
15. Mr. Stokes

asked the Minister of Aircraft Production for what reasons Mr. D. P. Welman, lately the Director of Aero Engine Production, is being relieved of his duties.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Aircraft Production (Mr. Lennox-Boyd)

Mr. Welman is being released at his own request, in order to resume duty with his firm, who have been pressing for his return.

Mr. Stokes

Is my hon. Friend aware that this gentleman is considered by the trade to be one of the most efficient and capable officers on his staff, and that pretty substantial rumour is rife that he is only going because one of the largest firms in the trade object to his employment?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

There is no truth whatever in the suggestion made in the latter part of the hon. Member's supplementary question.

Mr. Stokes

If I furnish my hon. Friend with -particulars, will he have the case fully looked into to my satisfaction?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I doubt the possibility of that.
