HC Deb 11 July 1944 vol 401 cc1565-6
26. Mrs. Adamson

asked the Minister without Portfolio whether he has considered the widespread view that children's allowances should be paid direct to the mother and if he proposes to include this in the Government's scheme.

The Minister without Portfolio (Sir William Jowitt)

I must ask my hon. Friend to await the publication of she promised White Paper.

Mrs. Adamson

While accepting that answer, may I ask my right hon. and learned Friend whether he will make representations to the Government that these allowances must be paid to the mother, otherwise there will be resentment?

Sir W. Jowitt

The Government are very well aware of that point of view.
