Mr. Creech Jonesasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what active policy is being pursued in Nyasaland to discourage the continued drainage of men 1146 from the Protectorate; and what programme in regard to agricultural development, low wages and poor standards of living is being prepared.
§ Colonel StanleyThe Nyasaland Post-War Development Committee is preparing a comprehensive post-war programme, covering agricultural and other forms of development, designed to raise the standard of living of the population in both the economic and the social sphere. It is the intention of the Nyasaland Government actively to pursue a planned policy of development, the implementing of which will discourage excessive emigration from the Protectorate.
