HC Deb 26 January 1944 vol 396 c673
24. Mr. J. Hollins

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works, whether, in order to expedite and ease the work of that portion of his Department dealing with housing, he will consider making the employment of qualified architects compulsory in connection with all house building, especially by manufacturers of prefabricated structures.

Mr. Hicks

The responsibility for housing schemes rests with the local authorities and the Health Departments and not with my Ministry. So far as the Ministry of Works is concerned, it is making full use of outside architects.

Mr. Rhys Davies

Are the Government determined on a housing policy after the war which is in favour of prefabricated houses?

Mr. Hicks

That is another question.
