HC Deb 25 January 1944 vol 396 cc519-20
23. Sir Patrick Hannon

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has considered a copy of the memorandum prepared by the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce which was adopted by that council at its meeting on Monday, 10th January; and with what result.

Mr. Dalton

I have read this memorandum with great interest, but I regret that I cannot at present add to the reply which I gave on 11th November to my hon. Friend the Member for Shipley (Mr. Creech Jones).

Sir P. Hannon

Will the right hon. Gentleman indicate when he will be in a position to add anything to his previous statement? What preparations are being made by the Board of Trade to deal with the difficulties of manufacturers?

Mr. Dalton

The memorandum states in the final paragraph but one: in the circumstances it would seem that no useful purpose would be served by importuning the President of the Board of Trade at this juncture.

Sir P. Hannon

Does not that reveal the ineptitude of the Board of Trade in dealing with export policy?
