Mr. Hewlettasked the Minister of Pensions whether, when pensioned men disabled through loss of limbs are dis- 1391 charged into civil life, any investigation is made on behalf of his Department to ascertain whether these men are able properly to maintain themselves on the amount of money they receive.
§ Sir W. WomersleyBefore a man who has lost a limb is discharged from the Forces the question of his resettlement in civil life is discussed with him by a medical officer of my Department and an officer of the Ministry of Labour and National Service. If he is unable to resume his old employment, arrangements are made for him to have training for an occupation suited to his disablement and during such training he is paid allowances for the maintenance of himself and his family, in addition to his disability pension.
