HC Deb 03 February 1944 vol 396 cc1390-1
37. Mr. Hewlett

asked the Minister of Pensions whether, when pensioned men disabled through loss of limbs are dis- charged into civil life, any investigation is made on behalf of his Department to ascertain whether these men are able properly to maintain themselves on the amount of money they receive.

Sir W. Womersley

Before a man who has lost a limb is discharged from the Forces the question of his resettlement in civil life is discussed with him by a medical officer of my Department and an officer of the Ministry of Labour and National Service. If he is unable to resume his old employment, arrangements are made for him to have training for an occupation suited to his disablement and during such training he is paid allowances for the maintenance of himself and his family, in addition to his disability pension.
