HC Deb 02 February 1944 vol 396 c1267
41. Mr. Hammersley

asked the Minister of Production what steps he is taking to transfer surplus tank production capacity to the manufacture of essential textile machinery.

The Minister of Production (Mr. Lyttelton)

Complete arrangements have been in operation for some time for transferring any capacity which has been surplus to current requirements on to other products, with first preference for those which are necessary for the prosecution of the war.

Mr. Hammersley

Is the House to understand that my right hon. Friend does not approve of the use of much-needed materials and man-power, to convert unnecessary and useless tanks into equally useless towing vehicles?

Mr. Lyttelton

That is a different question.
