HC Deb 27 April 1944 vol 399 cc917-8
26. Mr. Hannah

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is customary for the deputy mayor of a non-county borough to act as J.P. and in this capacity sit with the ordinary county magistrates to adjudicate on matters arising within the borough concerned.

Mr. H. Morrison

The deputy mayor of a non-county borough is not, as such, a justice of the peace; if he is a justice of the peace in his personal capacity he is entitled to sit on the bench to which he is assigned.
