HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 c372
37. Mr. Vernon Bartlett

asked the President of the Board of Education whether, in view of the bad effects of the halftime education given to evacuee children or to children in the reception areas to which other children have been evacuated, he will now take steps either to have evacuee children brought back to their own schools or to take over adequate buildings in the reception areas?

Mr. Butler

It has generally been found possible by the hiring, where necessary, of additional accommodation or by other temporary expedients to provide both evacuated and local pupils in reception areas with total weekly periods of instruction which at least approximate to normal. If, however, the hon. Member has evidence that in any particular reception area this is not the case, I should be ready to investigate the matter.
