HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 cc375-6
73. Sir John Wardlaw-Milne

asked the Minister of Health, whether he will consider the granting of maternity benefits to women employed in the Emergency Medical Service?

Mr. E. Brown

Women employed in the Emergency Medical Services who are insured under the National Health Insurance Acts are, subject to the fulfilment of certain qualifying conditions, entitled to payment of maternity benefit in respect of confinement.

Sir J. Wardlaw-Milne

Is it not a fact that these disqualifications largely prevent these women getting benefit?

Mr. Brown

I am not sure whether the hon. Gentleman is thinking of those who are excepted from compulsory insurance. If that is so, I shall be glad to give him a precise answer about that.
