asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs which States have been invited to appoint representatives to the Inter-Governmental Committee on Refugees; what are the names of the representatives so appointed; of whom will the executive of the committee exist; and who will be its chairman?

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when the Committee will really begin to function? I understand that only one meeting of the original executive committee, appointed about three years ago, has been held

I understand that the Committee is meeting now. The next meeting wil be on 30th September.

The present membership of the Inter-Governmental Committee is as follows:

Australia. France.
Argentine Republic. Hayti.
Belgium. Honduras.
Bolivia. Ireland.
United Kingdom. Mexico.
Brazil. Nicaragua.
Canada. Norway.
Chile. New Zealand.
Colombia. Paraguay.
Cuba. Netherlands.
Denmark. Peru.
Dominican Republic. Sweden.
Ecuador. Switzerland.
United States of Uruguay.
America. Venezuela.
Guatemala and Panama both withdrew in 1940, but they have been invited to resume membership.

The following States have been invited to become members and to appoint representatives:

Costa Rica. Persia.
Czechoslovakia. Poland.
Egypt. Portugal.
Greece. South Africa.
Iceland. Spain.
India. Turkey.
Iraq. U.S.S.R.
Luxemburg. Yugoslavia.

The executive committee consists of the Ambassadors of:

Argentina. United States of
Brazil. America.
Netherlands.
Monsieur Vienot attends on behalf of the French Committee of Liberation, and the United Kingdom is represented by Lord Winterton, who is Chairman.
