HC Deb 21 September 1943 vol 392 c8
15 and 16. Captain C. S. Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for War (1) whether he has any statement to make on the scheme to provide vocal letters for troops overseas, which he announced to certain troops during his recent visit to North Africa; and when this service will come into action;

(2) who was responsible for the suggestion that vocal letters should be provided for the troops oversea; and whether this individual has been suitably commended?

Sir J. Grigg

Certain technical difficulties have yet to be solved, but I hope that they will be overcome. We are grateful to Mr. Cardew, of Voicegraph Ltd., for the original suggestion for the use of this device which, if it can be made use of, will no doubt be welcomed as a fresh link between soldiers and their families.
