§ 29. Mr. Hewlettasked the Secretary of State for War, what better provision has now been made for officers allowed local leave in the Middle East but unable to take it owing to the high cost of living?
§ Sir J. GriggThe improvements in the leave facilities in the Middle East to which I referred in the reply I gave my hon. Friend on 27th July are part of a continuous process. The Director of Welfare is at present in the Middle East. On his return I shall be glad to give my hon. Friend up-to-date details of the arrangements now in force.
Mr. AstorIn view of the fact that there are admirable rest camps for other ranks on leave in the Middle East, will my right hon. Friend consider taking over suitable hotels say on Mount Carmel as rest camps for officers on leave?
§ Sir J. GriggI do not think the hon. Member heard the answer I gave, but when the Director of Welfare is back from the Middle East I will discuss the matter with him.
