HC Deb 27 October 1943 vol 393 c180
44. Mr. John Dugdale

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether there are any conditions as to the employment of labour on Trinidad sugar growers receiving a subsidy from His Majesty's Government; and whether such subsidy is payable to small as well as large growers?

Colonel Stanley

The conditions of employment of labour in the sugar industry are governed by local legislation for the employment of labour generally which imposes no specific conditions on the sugar growers. No subsidy is at present paid to Trinidad sugar growers by His Majesty's Government. Should the situation change, I shall certainly bear my hon. Friend's suggestion in mind.
