HC Deb 13 October 1943 vol 392 cc857-8
7. Commander Locker-Lampson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that a building used for Protestant worship and the property of the South Europe Lands and Buildings Company, was confiscated recently without compensation by Franco's Government; and what steps His Majesty's Government propose to take?

Mr. Law

Yes, Sir. His Majesty's Embassy at Madrid addressed a note to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs protesting against the seizure of this building and requesting an urgent investigation and the return of the property to the owners.

Commander Locker - Lampson

Does not my right hon. Friend think that this conduct on the part of the Franco Government does not entitle General France to be invited to any peace conference?

Mr. Law

I have given the House an account of the action we have taken, and I think we had better await the result.
